Beyond Van Gogh opens at the ENMAX Centre for three week stint

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience opened in Lethbridge for its three week stint in the city on Friday.

Attendees can immerse themselves in over 300 pieces of work from post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh as it’s transformed from two-dimensions into a three-dimensional experience.

Natasha Lowenthal, producer media rep with Paquin Entertainment, says the experience explores the relationship Van Gogh had with his subject matter, including the land, nature and his brother Theo, who was a big supporter both financially and artistically.

“They [attendees] can understand a little bit more about the process of his work and really see the elements of his work that really have become so familiar in its full form, up close, you can see it right down to every brush work, every bare piece of canvas,” says Lowenthal “It really enhances the movement he had that he achieved with brush work, and it brings everybody into the painting so that they really see it from the perspective of the artist.”

Beyond Van Gogh started in Miami, Florida two and a half years ago and since then has travelled to around 56 cities, with more than five million tickets sold.

“It’s been incredibly well received, it is universally appealing, it’s good for all ages, all walks of life, it’s an incredibly accessible way to connect with art,” says Lowenthal.

Jennifer Norsworthy, business development manager with the ENMAX Centre, says that they’re thankful for the partnerships within the industry and the trust to bring this event to Lethbridge and transform the arena into such a unique set up.

“We’re always looking for ways to benefit and have a economic impact on the city,” says Norsworthy.

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience runs from July 14 until August 6. Showtimes are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
