A 64 year old Edmonton man is presumed dead in Glacier National Park in Montana.

The US National Park Service says rangers responded to Pray Lake at about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon after a bystander spotted a man drowning.

Witnesses say it appears the man went into the lake to retrieve a dog when he began to struggle and went under the water.

The dog didn’t survive.

A search took place until dark and was set to resume again at first light Wednesday.

The area around Pray Lake will be closed while the search continues.
