Artwork commissioned for Indigenous space at Lethbridge Public Library

A new public art installation has been commissioned for the Indigenous learning space at the Lethbridge Public Library.

The library approached the Art Committee over a year ago to discuss a piece for the Eagles’ Nest and a presentation was made to City Council earlier this week.

Blackfoot artist Faye HeavyShield says it consists of a mosaic filled with tiny tile portraits that people in the community will pose for, as well as recorded voices from community members.

She says the installation will also will mirror the relationships that different parts of the community have.

Executive Director of the Allied Arts Council and member of the Art Committee, Suzanne Lint, says the artwork is a project that creates opportunity for dialogue and discovery and is full of engagement and community.

City Council approved the artwork to be commissioned at a cost of $65,000
