Alberta now allows for digital proof of automobile insurance

Some Lethbridge drivers will soon be able to do-away with their pink vehicle insurance slips.

The provincial government announcing Monday that Alberta will become the third province to allow for digital proof of insurance.

Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter is the Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction. He says drivers with digital proof of insurance will be able to access and present the information on their mobile device.

Hunter says “in an age where technology and innovation is moving fast, this is one step we’re taking to make government more modern, information accessible, and simply put, make life easier for Albertans.”

He says drivers will still be able to carry paper insurance slips if they choose, adding it will also be up to each insurance company to decide if they want to offer digital proof of insurance.

Nova Scotia and most recently, Newfoundland and Labrador, also allow for digital proof of insurance.
