Palliser School Division announces name of new grade 7 -12 school in Coaldale

The new school for students in grades 7 through 12 in Coaldale officially has a name, using elements submitted by community members.

The Palliser School Division’s Board of Trustees has picked ‘Coaldale Prairie Winds Secondary’ as the schools name. According to the school division, “a panel of members in the school community in Coaldale helped refine the ideas and the Board of Trustees considered this to be the most fitting choice.”

With the new seven to 12 facility, the Palliser School Division will be reconfiguring the other two schools in the community, with R.I. Baker School changing to a grade four to six school and Jennie Emery Elementary School changing to kindergarten to grade three school.

The school division initially started looking at the new school in 2017, when they started public consultation and worked on a plan that responded to the changes seen in the community. In March of 2021, the province committed $40 million to building the new school and undergoing a grade reconfiguration for the schools already in the community. Coaldale Prairie Winds Secondary is expected to open to students in the 2024-2025 school year.
