NDP schedules pre-budget town hall for Lethbridge in late September

Alberta’s NDP is scheduling a pre-budget town hall for Lethbridge toward the end of September.

The Official Opposition says it engaged in public consultation for each budget during its term and will continue to do so as it prepares a Shadow Budget to release alongside the UCP’s.

The party says public consultation is lacking under Premier Jason Kenney ahead of the fall budget.

Finance Critic and Lethbridge West MLA Shannon Phillips says the NDP will listen to the voice of Albertans, even if Premier Jason Kenney will not.

She tells MyLethbridgeNow.com “our approach is going to be to go out and talk to people about their priorities in health care , education, seniors care and make sure we reflect those priorities in an alternate set of proposals to what we can only assume this government is going to do, given that they are keeping their advice secret.”

Opposition Leader Rachel Notley is also calling on the Premier to release the so-called Blue Ribbon Panel Report this week as originally scheduled. Last week, Jason Kenney announced it will be after Labour Day before the report will be made public.

So far there are six dates on the NDP pre-budget town hall consultation schedule with more dates possibly being added in the future.

The Lethbridge town hall is set for September 24th.
