Online fundraiser started for Fort Macleod family involved in fatal crash

More than $20,000 has already been raised for a Fort Macleod family who lost their four-year old daughter in a tragic crash earlier this week.

According to RCMP, an SUV crossed the centre line along Highway 3, west of Creston, B.C. Monday evening (Aug. 12) and hit an RV head on that was carrying the family of five. The RV flipped, landed on its roof and caught fire.

Four out of the five were able to escape, but a Go Fund Me page says Marty and Janine Vanee lost their young daughter Emmy. Marty was also seriously injured, and will have to undergo several surgeries and an intensive recovery process.

A 26-year old man from Creston that was driving the SUV died at the scene. Mounties add that evidence suggests he was heading back home from the Shambhala Music Festival, and have not ruled out that he might have been impaired.

A friend of the Vanee family, Tanya Van Hierden, started the Go Fund Me page to help with any expenses.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
