A 19-year-old cowboy from Turin, Alberta is recovering from severe injuries in a Denver hospital after getting hung up while competing at the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo earlier in the week.
Austin Broderson was competing in the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver, Colorado on Monday, January 16th when he reportedly got hung up in his rigging when he was buked off the horse he was riding. Pick-up men in the ring are said to have gotten the horse stopped; by this time the Vauxhall High School graduate had slipped under the horse’s belly, between his hind leg, with his left hand still stuck in the rigging. Broderson was freed from the rigging and attended by onsite emergency medical staff before being taken to hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition in in the intensive care unit.
The 19-year-old is a student at Casper College in Wyoming, and last November competed in his first Canadian Finals Rodeo. During the November 1st to 5th event, Broderson would finish 2nd in the standings, after placing third in the first round and first in the last two.
