Lethbridge Mayor proposes task force to address crime & drug use

Lethbridge City Council plans to explore the next steps in tackling the local drug crisis.

A proposed task force will look at best practices, community engagement and evidence-based research.

Mayor Chris Spearman says the aim is to find ways at negating the issues surrounding illicit drug use in the city.

On Monday (Aug. 19), Spearman brought forward an official business resolution which would explore how a focused task force could action solutions against drugs.

He says Council has heard loud and clear that crime and personal safety continue to be top priorities for our community. “City Council understands that we need to continue the hard work we’ve been doing on how to address illicit drug use in our city and find new solutions to deal with the issues.”

The Mayor’s resolution directs City administration to draft a terms of reference and to report back to City Council on October 15th.
