On Hold: No tiny home community in Okotoks

It appears the plan for Canada’s first urban tiny home community has been put on hold.

In late May, Okotoks Town Council gave the go-ahead for the next steps of the “Homestead Project” which included 42 units ranging in size from 350 to 550 square feet.

Solar panels and gardens were also planned for the tiny home village.

However, a group of residents opposed to the project began gathering signatures on a petition with the hope of halting the development.

On Monday, Okotoks Council voted on first reading not to fund the project after accepting that petition.

It had almost 3,000 signatures.
