Man accused of attacking Lethbridge woman in May found fit for trial

An Ottawa man accused of viciously attacking an elderly Lethbridge woman in her home has been found fit to stand trial.

21-year old Adam Hobkirk-Onate has recently completed a 60-day psychiatric assessment.

According to a report from the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre there’s no indication that he’s suffering from any mental disorder, and may be held criminally responsible for his actions.

Hobkirk-Onate is accused of sneaking into the basement of a 75 year old woman’s home on Fairway Street South in May, staying there for a day,  and then beating her with a bicycle and stealing her vehicle. He’s charged with aggravated assault, housebreaking and disguise with intent.

Hobkirk-Onate will review the report with his lawyer and is scheduled to be back in a Lethbridge courtroom on Sept. 13th to take the next step.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
