Lethbridge first-time illustrator Audrey Reibin is gearing up for a book launch next week featuring “The Mudhole” – a children’s book written by Stephanie Foreman.
“She came to me with this opportunity and I took it,” says Reibin, who adds the book follows the adventures of a hippo. The book is currently available online.
Reibin recently graduated from Catholic Central High School and their previous work has included personal art commissions for people, stickers and painting.
“I’ve only ever done commissions. People come to me and say, ‘Can you draw this photo in your style?’ Working with someone on their own project was awesome. Getting to bounce ideas off of them was fun. Getting to develop these characters and bringing them to life, I’ve never done anything like that before,” says Reibin.
According to Reibin, the process of digitally drawing the illustrations for the book took about two months to complete.
Plans are in the works for Reibin to continue working with the author on other books. “She wants to create an eight-book series, so this is the first one.”
“I’ve started developing new characters for the next book,” adds Reibin.
Reibin also wants to further their education in the arts and has applied to a digital arts school in Vancouver.
The book launch runs from 1-4 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Crossings Branch May 25.
