Work on sections of 7th Street South kicks off Monday

Several road construction projects are expected to start in the city’s downtown in the coming weeks.

According to the City of Lethbridge, work in the core is scheduled to start the week of May 27th and will impact parts of 7th Street South.

Between 5th and 6th Avenue crews will be resurfacing two parking areas, including adding a new accessible parking ramp on the east side of the road and making changes to accessible ramps to accommodate bike traffic. This work is expected to take a week depending on the weather and will then be followed by the installation of protected cycling lane blocks and line painting; this includes indicating shared lanes for bicycles and cars. During this work, which is expected to start around mid-June, drivers are being advised to expect temporary road closures and the work is anticipated to take two weeks at most.

As well in some areas between 3rd and 5th Avenue crews will be adding a pair of wheelchair ramps, including one that will be adjacent to the CIBC on 7th Street, and installing the bike lane blocks. According to the city, the work should have little impact on daily traffic, but there could be some minor delays with temporary closures in the area right around the work.
