New study shows large chunk of Lethbridge homeowners living mortgage free

Nearly 40 per cent of people who own homes in Lethbridge are said to be living mortgage-free, according to a new study from Casivoo.

The report from the online gaming website used Statistics Canada data from 2021 and looked at factors including homeowners with a mortgage, homeowners without a mortgage, renters and subsidized housing to put together the list of 39 Canadian cities. Lethbridge finished the highest out of the four Alberta cities included on the list at 17th with 38.4 per cent of homeowners living mortgage-free.

Edmonton finished 33rd on the list with 35.1 per cent of homeowners being mortgage-free, Red Deer is 35th with 34.7 per cent and Calgary is 37th with 33.9 per cent.

Thunder Bay Ontario had the highest number of homeowners in Canada who had paid off their mortgages at 47 per cent and Barrie Ontario was the last city on the list sitting 39th with 31.8 per cent.
