Hurricanes alum heads to Stanley Cup Finals

Stuart Skinner may be one of 11 Western Hockey League alumni playing in the Stanley Cup Final Saturday, but he is the only Lethbridge Hurricanes alumnus hitting the ice.

The Edmonton Oilers goaltender played between the pipes for five seasons for the Lethbridge team before he played his last season in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos. In the five years Skinner played in Lethbridge, he started in net for 182 regular-season games, winning 112 of them, and 24 playoff games, winning 11.

Since he graduated from the WHL, Skinner has played for multiple minor league and NHL farm teams, having been in the Edmonton Oilers system since 2017 when he was drafted by the team. The Edmonton native has been the goalie for his hometown team for the past three seasons. He has been the starter for the team 123 times, with 59 of those games being in the 2023-2024 season alone.

Skinner and the rest of the Oilers team will kick off their run for the Stanley Cup against the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
