The federal government is dolling out a lot of cash to support innovative businesses and organizations across southern Alberta.
Ottawa is investing more than $38 million into 27 new projects.
In Lethbridge, Flexahopper Plastics is receiving $1.3 million to improve productivity with a new Thermal-flex system. Southland Trailer Corporation will get $3 million to scale up manufacturing capacity of gravel and highway product lines.
Whole Leaf in Coaldale, meanwhile will receive $3.5 million. That’s to purchase technology for the production of greenhouse produce.
And the Village of Foremost will be given $600,000 to develop a flight test plan at its Unmanned Aerial Systems Test Range.
Federal Innovation & Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains says they’re making a substantial investment in southern Alberta’s leadership in a variety of sectors, from energy to agriculture. “Canada’s prosperity depends on our ability to diversify our economy and seize the opportunities in the rapidly changing global economy. Using the tools at our disposal, the government is positioning Calgary and southern Alberta to prosper from its unique advantages.”
The funding comes through three federal programs.
