Alberta NDP opens Lethbridge-West candidate nominations for by-election

Today, nominations opened to select an Alberta NDP Lethbridge-West candidate for a by-election. The candidate will be selected by members at a vote Sept. 7.

“Lethbridge deserves a strong voice in the Legislature,” says leader Naheed Nenshi. “We have seen phenomenal growth in our party this year. I am looking forward to members selecting a candidate in a competitive, open and democratic process.”

Individuals who are party members in good standing may connect with the Constituency Association nomination committee and request an application, as well as information about the process for running for nomination.

“We encourage any members who are interested in taking the next step to consider applying for candidacy,” adds Garett Spelliscy, party executive director. “The Constituency Association is ready to get down to work and call a nomination meeting, so any potential candidates should apply soon.”

The Government of Alberta is required by law to set a date for the by-election before Jan. 1. Other parties have not yet announced the nomination period for candidates, as of publication.
