Lethbridge Judo Club member Christa Deguchi captures gold at Paris Games

A member of a local judo club has won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Christa Deguchi defeated South Korea’s Huh Mimi in the under-57 kilogram final on Monday to win the first gold medal for Canada.

It was a moment of redemption for Deguchi. She previously lost to Huh in the under-57 kilogram final at the 2024 World Championships.

Deguchi won in a sudden-death overtime following a match-ending penalty to Huh.

Both Christa and her sister Kelly are members of the Lethbridge Kyodokan Judo Club. Kelly is also competing at the 2024 Paris Games.
