Municpal Affairs Minister in Lethbridge for Mid-Sized Cities meeting

Alberta Municipal Affairs Minister Kaycee Madu was in Lethbridge Thursday to meet with mayors of the province’s 22 largest cities and towns.

He says it’s important the province and municipalities work together to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Madu says he’s also made it clear that just as the two levels of government share in times of prosperity, they also share in times of fiscal restraint.

He told media “my commitment to them is that I will work with them to make sure that we build our province and ensure that they have the resources they need to tackle some of their municipal priorities.”

Lethbridge is hosting the Alberta Mid-Sized Cities Mayors and CAOs for their caucus meeting.

Together, the caucus represents urban areas with a total population of almost 1-million people.

Mayor Chris Spearman says they’ll be talking priorities and sharing ideas and best practices, party in preparation for next month’s provincial budget.

He says the City is already conducting reviews on the services it provides and trying to find ways to be more efficient in order to be “part of the provincial plan and be effective partners with our government.”
