Emergency department at Fort Macleod Health Centre to temporarily close

The Fort Macleod Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) is set to temporarily close.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says due to a lack of physician coverage, the ED will be closed from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.

It is set to re-open at 9 p.m. Thursday to provide 24-hour service.

Nursing staff will stay on site during the temporary closure to provide care for long-term care residents. Patients are asked to call 911 for a medical emergency. Calls will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

Individuals needing care can access emergency services at the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre, Claresholm Community Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital. Residents can also call Health Link at 811 for non-emergency health-related questions. Health Link is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. People requiring non-emergency medical care are encouraged to contact their family physician.
