Whoop-up days parade closes several downtown roads Tuesday morning

Select roads will be blocked off Tuesday morning for the Whoop-Up Day’s Parade.

Starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, August 20th parts of 3rd Street South in front of Park Place Mall, 3rd Ave South between 3rd Street and 13th Street, 13th Street between 3rd Avenue and 9th Avenue and 9th Avenue between 9th Avenue between 13th Street North and Galbraith Elementary School.

The Parade route starts at Park Place Shopping Centre and ends at Galbraith Elementary School. Director of Community Engagement Paul Kingsmith said yesterday there are over 90 floats registered for the parade.

“We have delegates from across the province. It’s going to be an exciting time. We have Duane Kesler as our parade marshal. Duane is one of Canada’s very best stock contractors of all time. With his roots right here in southern Alberta. Having him lead the way is exciting,” Kingsmith says.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Grow Up Wester.” All roads are expected to be re-opened by noon.
