Lethbridge County councillor Klaas VanderVeen has resigned from his position.
According to county officials, VanderVeen’s resignation is due to his move out of the division 6, making him no longer eligible to serve as councillor for the area under the Alberta Municipal Government Act.
While he gave his resignation following the May 15th council meeting, there will be no by-election held for the vacancy with the municipal election happening in October.
According to the councillor, it has been a privilege to serve the residents of Lethbridge County since 2017.
“This role has been immensely rewarding, and I am grateful for the chance to connect with and collaborate alongside so many outstanding individuals during my time on Council,” VanderVeen says.
The division he represented is in the centre of the county and includes the hamlet of Shaughnessy.
