Last recruit for 2024 season signed by Kodiaks men’s soccer team

Robert McKinstry has been signed by the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks as the last recruit of the 2024 season.

McKinstry is a local student-athlete, joining the Kodiaks after attending Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. He honed his craft as a fullback with the Lethbridge Football Club (LFC), which makes him the seventh recruit of the 2024 class to join from the LFC.

“I was heavily influenced to join the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks not just for the fact it was close to home but also other players and previous coaches I’ve played with were, and currently are, a part of the program,” McKinstry says.

He adds that he plans to bring strong a work ethic and energy to the team.

Kodiaks head coach Sean Carey says, “He’s feisty for his size.”

“He’s not that big, but he plays big as a defender. We love the way he has been playing. He’s got some grit and when he’s got the ball at his feet he doesn’t shy away from it.”

This past year, the LFC teamed up with the Vancouver Whitecaps and their ‘Caps to College’ program. Through that initiative, Carey was able to attend practices to see and recruit players like McKinstry.

The Kodiaks start their regular season on Saturday, September 7 on the road against Ambrose University. They host SAIT in their home opener on Sunday, September 8.

In the classroom, McKinstry will be in the Business Administration program at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
