Residents might one day be calling the Town of Taber ‘the City of Taber’.
The Town is starting to explore the idea of becoming the 20th city in Alberta.
A decision has yet to be made and before any final decisions are made, officials are seeking input from the community over the coming months.
The Town says “comprehensive public feedback” is needed before an application is made to change status with the Alberta government. The process will involve a series of consultations, surveys and informational sessions.
“Economic growth opportunities and benefits for the betterment of our community are important considerations and are very possible,” says mayor Andrew Prokop.
Derrin Thibault, the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer says the exploration process is about “more than just a change in title”.
“It’s about understanding how this could impact every resident and business in Taber, and what it means for our future growth and development,” Thibault states.
“We’re committed to making sure that public engagement is thorough and reflects what our community wants.”
Further updates on public engagement sessions and the process will be made available at the Town of Taber website.
