Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Lethbridge region

A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for the City of Lethbridge and much of southern Alberta.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain in and around the region this morning, some of which could push into the severe category.

The national meteorological and climate change organization says it’s possible that the threat of severe weather could also develop Tuesday afternoon.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
