Youth residential care facility one step closer in Coaldale

A residential care project for youth in the Town of Coaldale is going forward following the approval of a rezoning application by town council.

Earlier this month Coaldale Council made the land use amendment that allows for the residential care facility. The property at 2008 – 14 Avenue, was changed from an Urban Reserve to a Direct Control property. The change was needed because the residential care facility is classified as residential use, but does not need permanent residential re-zoning.

Closer to Home Community Services, was awarded a contract by the province for the facility to house up to six children under the age of 12. Coaldale was the chosen location for the facility because of the low crime rate, schools, and community nature.

All three readings of the bylaw were unanimously passed by council, as was the motion for administration to issue a permit to the non-profit organization for the residential care facility with any conditions that are needed.
