Elections Alberta using community methods to share in replace of “Where to Vote” cards

As the postal strike continues officials at Elections Alberta are addressing concerns about how it will impact the Lethbridge-West byelection.

According to the electoral organization, due to the strike Where to Vote cards will not be able to to sent to those who live in the riding. However, officials say they have a plan that includes several other ways Elections Alberta can get the information out to voters including print, radio and social media. Included in this plan is having flyers printed and handed out to those who live in the riding the week of December 2nd that will have the voting location information along with radio ads on Lethbridge radio stations including 94.1 CJOC and 98-1 The Ranch.

Additionally Elections Alberta began sending out Special Ballot packages through an alternate carrier and have included information in the package on how the voter can send the ballot back ahead of election day.

Those wanting to vote during the advanced voting period from December 10th to 14th can go to one of the two voting locations at either Melcor Centre or University Drive Alliance Church. However, those voting on election day will need to vote at their assigned location, which will be posted on the Elections Alberta website.

Last week Elections Alberta called the by-election for Wednesday, December 18th. According to the provincial elections office candidate nominations are open until 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 30th.

Confirmed candidates include on-leave Lethbridge city councillor John Middleton-Hope for the UCP and former Lethbridge councillor Rob Miyashiro running under the banner of the Alberta NDP.
