With all the days in December already sponsored, the 16th Annual Meals on Wheels “23 Days of Christmas” campaign officially kicks off Dec. 1.
This year’s goal is to reach approximately $30,000, as Select People Solutions and Teamworks Career Centre launch the Honourary Chef and Christmas Card fundraising campaign.
The campaign is now focusing on extended sponsor days into January and selling out the limited supply of Christmas cards, in partnership with Cuppers Coffee.
On average, 2,000 meals are delivered in December by Meals on Wheels. The goal of this project is to sponsor all these meals through funds raised by the “23 Days of Christmas” campaign and it plays a critical role in keeping the organization fully operational throughout the year.
Over the past 15 years, this campaign has raised well over $340,000 for Meals on Wheels. Businesses, community groups and individuals can support this campaign by becoming Honourary Chefs and sponsoring either a full day or a half day of meals. The campaign can also be supported by purchasing a special Christmas card and Cuppers will donate the cost of one hot meal per card sold.
“The ‘23 Days of Christmas’ campaign is a great example of our community coming together to support important services to help people to continue to live independently in their homes,” says Ryan Miller, president of Teamwork Training Ltd. “It’s more than just a hot meal. These services provide the opportunity for people to visit and ensure recipients are doing OK. The work this organization does is so valuable to our community.”
“With the drastic cost of increased inflation and the cost of living, it becomes harder all the time to remain independently living in your own home. Especially for people who have additional barriers or needs. These times become extremely more difficult to achieve this,” notes Miller. “The Meals on Wheels organization is instrumental in providing the key service by providing the essential parts of independent living and that is a hot meal on a daily basis.”
By the time the campaign launches, it has already raised $23,500. Meals on Wheels has operated in Lethbridge since 1970 and provides over 100 hot and nutritious meals per day for members of the community who cannot provide for themselves.
Now a part of the Lethbridge Senior Citizen Organization, Meals on Wheels relies on local volunteers to assist with the delivery of the meals prepared daily in the LSCO’s kitchen.
