‘Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties’ is the ‘feel-good’ movie of the year

It’s the feel-good movie of the year that will sincerely warm the cockles of your heart this holiday season!

“Trailer Park Boys Presents: Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties” is a documentary film that follows Bubbles and his band, “The Sh*trockers” from Sunnyvale Trailer Park in Nova Scotia to Europe, opening for Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters.

With Randy, the band’s trusty roadie, and Bubbles’ best friends Ricky and Julian showing up to help save the day – the documentary is indeed a tell-all tale about Bubbles’ rise to fame. Bubbles even meets up with other music legends, including Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones, Duff McKagen from Guns N’ Roses and Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick.

“It’s been in theatres a couple of weeks in Canada and the U.S. It’s coming out over in the UK and Ireland in January. It’s been amazing so far. We went and did premieres. We did one in London and went to Los Angeles. Home here – we did one and Toronto and went to New York for a couple of them. It’s just been unbelievable,” says Bubbles. “Very fun times travelling around.”

Bubbles says everybody seems to really enjoy it, “which I’m happy about.”

“The general consensus is they feel a lot better after they see it than when they walked in the theatre. That’s all you can hope for really. They’re calling it a ‘feel-good’ movie, so that’s what ya want.”

There’s been quite a few cases of even grown men coming out of the theatre and they’re crying at the end of the movie, Bubbles adds. “That’s pretty surprising to me. They thought it was great and they felt really good the way it ends. I couldn’t be happier.”

“Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties” is a quote from Isaac Newton, Bubbles explains. “He coined ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ and I just changed it to kitties. But it means sort of the same thing. It’s about the fact, kitties made me the person I am, I suppose.”

“The movie’s just about starting my band. We start in the park and we end up going on tour around Nova Scotia at the Legions and we end up going to Europe with Billy Bob Thornton’s band and then it all sort of, through a bunch of crazy events, we end up at Abbey Road Studios – which is what my studio’s named after, Tabby Road. It’s the story of the band and how it came together.”

Bubbles notes he’s just a regular fella from the Sunnyvale Trailer Park. “To end up playing with Ronnie Wood, Duff McKagen, Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick, Lennon and Maisy Stella, Carmen Vandenberg from Bones UK and all the people I got to play with. Martin Freeman was there – all these people. It’s kind of like living in a dream really. It’s just unbelievable. Gettin’ to play with Ronnie Wood and singing with him on a song I wrote at Abbey Road. I don’t know how it could get much better than that.”

Over the years, Bubbles has created a whole bunch of album covers and now that he’s got a band, he wants to try and write the songs listed on the back. “And put the records out.”

As for the future, Bubbles says he’s definitely going to try and play more shows with the band and record more records.

Julian, Bubbles adds, has also been talking to the camera people again. “He wants them back in Sunnyvale to shoot some stuff, so maybe another movie with me, Ricky, Julian and Randy in the park with the park people. That’s probably gonna happen now, I would think.”

When Randy was with Mr. Lahey, he was always pretty mean to us, says Bubbles. “But Randy – when ya know him – deep down Randy’s a nice fella and he’s our family because he’s from the park. We’ve grown up with him and stuff. He’s got a big heart, that’s what matters. He would do anything for us, even though the boys think he’s just always out to get them. He’s not, he’s just set in his ways or whatever.”

With the holidays coming up, Bubbles says the boys will be having Christmas at Ricky’s trailer this year. “We do a podcast every week on SwearNet called, ‘Park After Dark.’ We’re going to shoot Christmas morning. We’re going to have Christmas and we’re going to film it all and put it on the podcast and it’ll go up Christmas morning.”

“I’ve got all kinds of nice handmade gifts I’m gonna give the boys. It’s gonna be a good time at Ricky’s trailer. I hope people tune into watch that.”

Bubbles hopes people will still go out and see the documentary. “It’s still in theatres, but it’ll be available – you can rent it at your house or buy it and watch it on your TV. I’m hopin’ people will get to see it and I hope they enjoy it and they also feel it’s a ‘feel-good’ movie. It’s one of those ones I think you can watch at Christmas and feel good about it. I hope that happens.”
