A gift of warmth is what the Lethbridge Public Library is offering over the holidays with two Mitten Trees at the downtown and Crossings locations.
“It’s a great initiative we’ve done every year. We hope to collect hats, mittens and scarves. Things to help keep everyone warm in those colder months. We collect them at both branches over the holiday season. In January, we will put them all together and donate them to different organizations,” says Jessica Quarterman from the library’s Strategic Communications department.
Quarterman adds the initiative usually gets a good response from the community. “We do have a stitching group that meets at the Crossings branch very regularly. They have amped the tree up a little bit more.”
“If anyone is a hobby crocheter or knitter and just wants to help us out to get some things dropped off for others, that’s always appreciated,” she notes. Items can be dropped off at either library location.
“They can put them on the tree or leave them at the desk.”
According to Quarterman, the library is also hosting the Banff Film Festival Jan 9-11. “It’s a highlight of all the Banff festival films and award-winning films we have in a collection. This is hosted at the Yates Theatre over three days.”
Tickets can be purchased at both library locations.
“It’s always a fun time to check out the cool independent films,” says Quarterman.
