Farmers in Lethbridge County asked to wash mud off equipment

Lethbridge County is asking farmers to prevent tracking mud onto County roads and highways.

Fall harvest is still underway and fields are now very wet after last week’s record snowfall.

The County says excessive mud on roads causes an uneven driving surface and increases the potential for collisions.

Farmers are asked to wash equipment prior to using County roads to minimize the mud impact. Those caught dropping piles of mud can face a fine.

Lethbridge County also offers the option for haulers to apply for a Tracking Permit at the County’s Picture Butte office. If approved, the permit holder is issued mud tracking signage and responsible for removing the mud from the road after hauling is complete.

Road users are asked to report instances of mud tracking on roads to the Lethbridge County Community Peace Officer at (403) 634-0755.
