Treacherous road conditions brought on by Mother Nature led to multiple collisions across the province.
On Thursday, January 16, the Alberta RCMP issued warnings for drivers to stay off the road if they could, due to the conditions caused by strong wind gusts and snow.
The RCMP says members responded to numerous reports of collisions all over Alberta from 12 p.m. on Thursday to 8 a.m. on Friday, January 17.
In all, 149 incidents were reported, including 24 in southern Alberta. Those resulted in one injury and 23 instances of property damage.
Mounties stress that when it is advised to not travel, drivers should take that advice if they can. “You are not only putting your own life at risk, but also risking other lives, including all first responders. Please drive responsibly and safely,” the RCMP says in a news release.
The Alberta RCMP says it anticipates more collisions will be reported in the next few days.
