Taber man arrested following collision

A single-vehicle collision in Taber last week resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man.

The Taber Police Service says at around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, officers and members of Taber Emergency Services responded to the scene, saying the vehicle crashed into a tree while attempting to turn on 58th Avenue.

Officials say shortly after the collision, the vehicle caught fire, adding that earlier that same day, it had been reported stolen from Coaldale.

Police say the driver fled the scene on foot. “Responding police units observed the male running in an alley near the collision and into a residence,” Taber Police said in a statement.

William Alan Rhodes was arrested by officers without incident and is facing different charges, including possession of stolen property, multiple charges for failing to comply with a release order and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. Rhodes has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, January 21.
