Coaldale soccer group makes a ‘Coaldale STRONG’ donation of $50K

A local sports organization has significantly contributed to the Shift Community Centre as part of the ‘Coaldale STRONG’ fundraising campaign.

The Coaldale & District Soccer Association made a $50,000 donation as part of the campaign. The money was raised over time, going back to the construction of the ITB and Food Market fields and will be used towards programming at the facility. Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn says the funds raised will be used to keep the facility as a hub for recreation and connection in the coming years.

“The Coaldale & District Soccer Association has long been a cornerstone of our community’s sports programming, and their donation of $50,000 to the Shift Community Recreation Centre is a testament to their commitment to Coaldale’s future,” Van Rijn says.

Director of Recreation and Community Services for the Town of Coaldale Russ Tanner, says the money will be used to fund programming for a wide range of ages and abilities.

“This donation highlights the dedication of the Coaldale & District Soccer Association to enhancing opportunities for sport and recreation in our community”, Tanner says.

The ‘Coaldale STRONG’ capital campaign is a two-phase initiative to build and fund the Shift Community Centre and fund future programming launched in September of 2021. Five months after launching the campaign the fundraising was raised to $2 million, doubling from its initial goal.

At the time Tanner said, “From the onset of the campaign launch, we engaged with potential donors who we felt could help us create early and significant momentum as we embarked on our ambitious goal of raising $1 million in philanthropic support. In a short span of time we’ve already received 60 per cent of our initial goal from our generous donors. This has given us the confidence that a new revised $2 million goal is achievable.”

The recreation centre opened in July of last year and according to officials through partnerships like the one with the local soccer association, will be putting on programming focused on creating a foundation for a healthier, more active community.

For their donation, the Coaldale and District Soccer Association’s logo will be put up on the ‘Coaldale STRONG’ recognition wall, along with the score clock and sections of the glass boards surrounding the indoor soccer field.
