Ben Slingerland, owner and operator of Reside Custom Builders, will be recognized Friday at the BILD Lethbridge Awards of Excellence in Housing Gala, as the 2024 Hall of Fame inductee.
The award recognizes Slingerland’s contributions to the residential construction industry over the past 25 years.
As an early adopter of Green Energy Solutions for housing, he has championed environmentally responsible construction practices, helping to set new standards for the industry in southern Alberta.
Reside Custom Builders has achieved several prestigious awards under Slingerland’s leadership, including a Built Green/Energy Efficient Housing Award, a CHBA Award of Merit and a Best Overall Renovation Award.
Slingerland also serves on the BILD Lethbridge’s Builders Council and he’s the only general contractor south of Calgary certified in the BILD Adaptiv Universal Housing course, showcasing his dedication to creating accessible and adaptable homes that meet diverse needs.
“We started this company 26 years ago and that’s a long time. We’re humbled and honoured to be nominated,” says Slingerland.
According to Slingerland, the local business does custom home design and building. “We start at blank slate stage, where we get our potential clients to offload all their dreams, visions and send over their inspiration photos of what they want to see in a home. We combine that with their budget and start designing.”
From there, Slingerland notes, the business has its own process that gets a potential client, “all the way to the turn-key stage of construction.”
“Soon after we started in 1999, we started designing by hand, with pencil and paper. I’m trained as a draftsman and a journeyman carpenter. I can combine those skills to bring people’s dreams to life,” says Slingerland.
Slingerland says everyone in southern Alberta is like family, from the clients to suppliers to trade partners.
