FCSS Senior Speaker Series focus’s on scam prevention

The next Senior Speakers Series in Coaldale is highlighting ways the older population can protect themselves from scams in the future.

On Wednesday, Lethbridge County FCSS will hold a series session in Coaldale on “Scams and Frauds from a Banking Perspective” with an employee of the local ATB branch. Madison Hanson with FCSS says a previous session on this topic which was held in Barons was extremely popular.

“The seniors loved it and wanted more information about scams from a police perspective rather than a banking perspective,” Hanson says. “I might be contacting [the RCMP] to do one in Nobleford.”

Hanson adds a reason for the topic is because of the increased sophistication of these scams, helping community members stay informed will help them protect themselves from these fraudulent actions.

The Senior Speaker Series covers a wide variety of topics that are deemed interesting by attendees, with Hanson explaining they are held once to twice a month in the various communities the FCSS serves.

Wednesday’s session runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Coaldale Seniors Centre and is open to seniors, caregivers, and community members who want to learn more about how to protect themselves from financial scams.
