Police say they have removed a significant amount of meth and fentanyl from the streets and charged a B.C. man in connection to the seizure.
According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, on Monday, members of the Crime Suppression Team and Property Crimes Unit reported seeing activity they believed was consistent with drug trafficking in the downtown area. Officials say the Downtown Policing Unit assisted in the arrest of two people by stopping the vehicle.
Officers are said to have arrested the pair without incident and subsequently searched the suspect vehicle, where they found a combined 250 doses of fentanyl and meth. Along with the drugs, officers seized drug paraphernalia, including a scale, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash that is said to be the proceeds of crime.
Police have charged a 41-year-old from Courtenay, B.C. with a pair of offences related to drug trafficking. Daniel Richard Steven Hein has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the beginning of April. Police say a woman was released without charges.
According to officials, the area where police saw the initial activity happen has been identified by Comp Stat as an emerging crime hot spot.
