The City of Lethbridge is warning the public about a payment scam where users receive a text message claiming they have an unpaid parking infraction.
There have been multiple reports where residents have gotten a text message saying “Alberta Parking Notice”, which asks for credit card information immediately or for the receiver to log onto a website and provide information.
The City of Lethbridge says it does not reach out over text messages or phone calls when it comes to parking infractions.
In Lethbridge, if you receive a parking ticket you can pay online here.
Tickets can also be paid in-person by debit or credit card during regular hours at the Park ‘n’ Ride office at 705 5 Avenue South. Cash payments are still accepted at City Hall.
If you are concerned about a potential violation, you can call or chat with Lethbridge 311 to have any information verified.
The City of Lethbridge, in partnership with Lethbridge Police Service, also introduced a new cyber safety resource last fall. The Online Safety Toolkit is a one-stop shop for information about technology, social media, cyberbullying and cybersecurity that applies to everyone.
Families and communities can access a collection of tips and tools to improve their understanding of the digital world and promote responsible digital citizenship.
