Lethbridge Police issue advisory on high-risk offender living in the city

The Lethbridge Police Service has issued a warning about a high-risk offender in the city.

The LPS says 29-year-old Brent Miles Hansen has been released from custody as he continues to serve a three-year sentence in the community for sexual assault.

According to police, Hansen has a history of sexually offending against women “that he has opportunistically met using dating apps and social media”.

The LPS adds they believe he poses “a significant risk of harm to the community”. Hansen is restricted by conditions to not own, use or possess any technological device that would give him access to the internet, unless it is approved.

Police say the 29-year-old has been assessed as an above average risk to re-offend and is being monitored by Lethbridge Police’s High Risk Offenders Unit. Hansen is described as a Caucasian man, standing about 5’7” tall, 146 lbs., with short brown hair and hazel eyes.

The LPS says it is issuing the advisory in the interest of public safety.

“The Lethbridge Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the community of the residency of Brent Hansen. Police believe there is a significant risk to public safety,” reads the LPS advisory.

“Residents are advised that the intent of this process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to engage in any form of vigilante action.”
