Nominations open for annual Lethbridge Pride Awards

In June, the Lethbridge Pride Awards Gala returns, with seven different categories to be awarded, including the Young Leadership Award and the Arts and Culture Award.

Chair of the Lethbridge Pride Fest Society Cassaundra Fayant says the awards recognize different contributions to the Queer community throughout the year. “People can nominate community members for each category. On June 20, the successful nominations are presented with an award at our awards gala.”

Nominations are open until May 5. The gala will be held at 7 p.m. at the Galt Museum and Archives.

On May 10, the society is presenting A BIG Gay Concert, notes Fayant. “It will be renditions of different musical numbers from Rent, Wicked and those sorts of things done by members of the University of Lethbridge theatre and other community members around town.”

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Casa Community Room with all proceeds to benefit Lethbridge Pride Fest.

On June 22, Fayant adds, the society will be hosting its annual Trans March, which begins at Galt Gardens with a walk to City Hall.

Fayant says there is also a Flag Raising scheduled for June 23 at City Hall at 6 p.m.

This summer, the society hosts its annual Pride Parade, Pride in the Park and Pride Dance June 28.

The awards gala, Fayant says, is an event the society looks forward to each year. “We enjoy being able to recognize those that give back to the community. It is open for everyone to attend and it’s a free event. We’d love to see everybody there.”
