New parking stalls being added to downtown Lethbridge

You will likely notice crews working in downtown Lethbridge this week.

Starting Tuesday, there will be a set of partial and full road closures on 6 Street South between 5 Avenue and 4 Avenue, across from Festival Square.

Closures are in place for the installation of new on-street parking stalls.

The City of Lethbridge says first, the concrete pad will be removed. It had previously been used for transit bus passengers, on the east side of 6 Street, south of 4 Avenue. Crews will then re-pave the area to put in up to eight new parking stalls.

The work is expected to be done by Tuesday, May 6. Officials add that local access will be allowed for businesses in the area.

The project will result in the following impacts:

  • April 29 to May 2: Partial closure northbound, with through traffic still allowed
  • May 2: Brief full closure of the road, then back to partial closure
  • May 2 to May 5: partial closure northbound, with through traffic still allowed
  • May 5: Full closure on 6 Street between 5 Avenue and 4 Avenue while paving is underway, then back to partial closure
  • May 6: Road fully re-open

WEST SIDE UTILITY WORK

Residents are also advised of traffic interruptions on the west side of Lethbridge.

Utility service work for the new Lethbridge Alberta Temple will affect the area around Mauretania Road West. The roadway will be closed starting Tuesday, with detours in place.

That project is expected to be finished by Friday, June 6.
