If you’re driving in Lethbridge County, please remember to stay alert and exercise caution when driving through work zones, as the construction and roadwork season ramps up.
“Our crews are working hard to maintain and improve roads that support farms, businesses and families throughout the region,” the County notes.
This spring and summer, the County will be working on culvert replacements, as well as road rehabilitation projects, including (but not limited to):
- RR 19-4 between TWP 11-4 and TWP 12-2
- TWP 12-2 between Highway 845 and RR 19-4
- TWP 12-0 between Highway 25 and RR 19-3
To minimize disruptions to your commute, the County shares scheduled road closures and construction notices on its social media platforms or sign-up for email updates on the County’s website.
Whether you’re heading home or running an errand in your car or transporting loads in large equipment during your workday, when travelling on County roads, keep this in mind:
- Respect road closures and barricades: Never move barricades or drive through closed roads. This was a serious issue last year and puts both workers and drivers at risk.
- Pass with care: If you can’t clearly see around equipment, do not pass. Wait until it is safe and legal to do so.
- Give equipment room to work: Construction equipment and workers need ample space to carry out their tasks safely. When you encounter machinery on the road, give them room to maneuver. Don’t tailgate or crowd them.
- Reduce speeds in construction zones: Excessive speeds continue to be another serious issue. Speed limits are often reduced in construction zones, and fines are usually doubled. Slow down and drive with caution.
“We understand construction can be inconvenient, but the work being done is essential to maintaining and improving our roadways. Your cooperation will help protect our crews and other drivers and keep the construction season moving smoothly,” the County adds.
