Alberta Health Services is advising the public of possible measles exposure in the South Zone.
According to the provincial health agency, they are advising residents of possible exposure in Lethbridge, Pincher Creek and Medicine Hat between May 3rd and May 23rd. This includes Lethbridge Polytechnic on May 8th, 9th, 12th and 13th between roughly 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. each day. Zum’s Eatery & Mercantile in Waterton Park on May 10th between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. and Walmart Supercentre in Pincher Creek on May 10th between 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Other possible exposure sights include Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Emergency Department on May 5th between 9:25 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. and Shoppers Drug Mart in Taber on May 3rd between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Anyone who was in the area of exposure and was born in or after 1970 with less than two documented doses of the measles vaccine is said to be at risk of developing the illness. Officials advise monitoring for symptoms and staying home if any develop.
Symptoms of measles can include a fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a blotchy red rash that shows up three to seven days after the fever starts. If you are showing symptoms, health officials say you should stay home and call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434.
