A strike could happen at Canada Post so on that note, the City of Lethbridge is advising you to sign-up for electronic billing for your utility bills.Â
Officials say you should avoid sending payments by mail and are reminded that in the event of a strike, physical copies of bills will not be sent out.Â
E-billing can be set up by contacting Lethbridge 3-1-1 or the online utility service.Â
Other ways to make payments include:Â
- In-person at Lethbridge City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on business days. Cash, cheques and debit cards are accepted.Â
- Deposit boxes are available at the following locations:Â
-
- City Hall – front entrance and the drop box at the back of the buildingÂ
-
- Fritz Sick CentreÂ
-
- Nicholas Sheran PoolÂ
-
- Officials suggest you avoid leaving cash in the deposit drop boxes to ensure the safety of your fundsÂ
- Online banking – please allow two to three business days for processingÂ
- In-person at banks and other financial institutionsÂ
Payments are due by the date on your tax notice, utility bill or other payment notice.Â
The City says late payment fees will not be waived because of any postal strike action.Â
A Canada Post strike over the holiday season started on November 15 and was halted on December 17. On Monday, the company says it was given strike notice from the union that represents around 55,000 workers. Operations are anticipated to shut down by this Friday.Â
Lethbridge County will also be unable to mail invoices for utilities, water cardlock and accounts receivable.
To avoid missing payment deadlines, which will remain in place regardless of postal delays, the County strongly encourages customers to sign-up for e-billing.
E-billing can help ensure invoices are delivered on time, right to your inbox.
Residents can sign-up online at lethcounty.ca/p/online-payments or by stopping by the County office.
“We also want to remind customers not to mail payments during a postal disruption, as delivery cannot be guaranteed and you may incur interest charges if we do not receive payment on time,” the County notes.
