Lethbridge trio facing robbery, assault charges

Three people are facing charges connected to an alleged robbery, assault and unlawful confinement of a 21-year-old.

According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, on Sunday officers responded to reports of a robbery in the 1000 block of 13th Street South. When police arrived at the scene they took three men and a woman into custody. Officers investigation allegedly unveiled the suspects had broken into the victim’s home the day before and the men had threatened, assaulted, robbed and confined the 21-year-old man, telling him not to contact police. Police say they believe the group left the home sometime during the night but returned the next day to confront the victim.

An 18-year-old man, 42-year-old man and a 17-year-old man from Lethbridge are facing charges for extortion, robbery and assault. The 18-year-old was remanded into custody, while the 42-year-old and the 17-year-old were both released from custody. All three Lethbridge residents are scheduled to appear in court between the end of May and the middle of June.

Police released the woman after the investigation revealed she was present, but not directly involved. The incident is reported to have been a targeted event between known parties and police say was motivated by a dispute over property.
