The modernization of Coalhurst High School is one of 11 school projects the province announced will receive funding to help fast-track the process.
Earlier in the week the Province of Alberta announced the Palliser School Division project along with 10 others across the province will receive funding to move them to the next stage. For the Coalhurst High School modernization, this funding is for design work.
Minister of Education and Childcare Demetrios Nicolaides stated the announcement is a step towards seeing more schools being built at a faster rate than ever before.
“Through this innovative approach to building more schools now, backed by our generational investment of $8.6 billion to build more than 100 schools across the province, we will ensure every student in Alberta has the space to engage in the province’s world-class education system,” Nicolaides said.
Minister of Infrastructure Martin Long, added, “By accelerating school construction and expanding modular classroom capacity, we’re making sure families in growing communities have access to the education spaces they need – now and into the future.”
The funding is part of an $8.6 million announcement made last fall to build and renovate more than 100 schools.
The process to modernize the Coalhurst school started in 2022 when the school division did a value management assessment, which included discussions from all levels of the community from students, parents and members of Coalhurst Town Council.
