Former Lethbridge prosecutor gives up law license

A former Lethbridge prosecutor will no longer practice law after admitting to having an inappropriate relationship with a complainant in a criminal case he was trying.

The Law Society of Alberta issued two citations against Darwyn Ross at the beginning of the year. A panel from the provincial law society accepted Ross’s resignation earlier this month, along with an agreed statement of facts, including the former prosecutor’s admission of the inappropriate relationship.

According to a notice, the Resignation Committee of the Law Society accepted Ross’s application for resignation, which went into effect immediately. Ross reportedly left the prosecutor’s office in 2022 and started practicing law in Alberta in 2002.

According to CEO and Executive Director of the Law Society Elizabeth Osler, a written decision from the resignation committee will be posted on the Law Society’s website at a later time.
