The Town of Taber is celebrating a special birthday.
The southern Alberta community marks its 120th anniversary in 2025. To celebrate, the Town is hosting a concert and barbecue on Monday, June 30.
The festivities will feature performances from Kalsey Kulyk, Aaron Goodvin and headliners The Washboard Union.
“We want to invite all of our residents, past and present and anyone else, anyone with a connection to Taber, or if this is your first time here, we would love you to come out and celebrate this milestone with us,” says Economic Development Manager Amy Allred.
“Our 120-birthday concert is more than a milestone; it’s a celebration of the people and the spirit that built this community.”
Allred says the municipality has evolved quite a bit over the years.
“Taber has a long, strong history of entrepreneurship, family, [and] community,” she notes. “We’re really excited to bring everyone together to celebrate everyone who has made this community what it is – the farmers, the builders, the dreamers who have made this place a great town and we come together to celebrate that but also to look toward the future and to see what is still coming for Taber because there’s many more great years to come.”
She notes Monday’s celebrations are free to attend.
“We celebrate all of our residents and everyone who has made Taber what it is and all the people who are still yet to make it what it is going to be,” Allred adds.
The concert starts at 5 p.m. at Confederation Park. Additional details about the family-friendly event are available at the Celebrate Taber website.
Taber was incorporated as a Village on March 15, 1905, before later becoming a Town on July 1, 1907. The settlement that became Taber first took shape in the late 1890s with the arrival of homesteaders, then in 1903, settlers from the United States established a hamlet at a location known as ‘Tank’, which eventually turned into what is now known as Taber.
