Lethbridge project aims to avoid garbage bin overflow and keep doggy bag dispensers fully stocked

A pilot project in Lethbridge aims to keep local parks clean.

The Parks and Cemeteries department has placed stickers on garbage bins and doggy bag dispensers at three parks: Henderson Park, Legacy Park, and Nicholas Sheran Park.

The stickers feature a unique identification number and QC code that residents can scan. It links director to the ‘Report a Parks Problem’ page at the City of Lethbridge website.

When someone scans the codes, they can let staff know that a garbage bin needs to be emptied or a doggy bag dispenser needs to be refilled.

Individuals can still contact Lethbridge 311 but are asked to mention the ID number listed on the sticker, which helps staff find the bin or dispenser.

The project will be evaluated after a year of operation, and if it is successful, officials say it could be expanded to other parks in the city.
