Adult charges on trial in Lethbridge in historic sex crimes case

A second trial is underway for a Raymond man accused of sexual assault and sexual interference in a historic sex crimes case.

The 51-year old was convicted of similar charges earlier this year in Lethbridge youth court, and given 60 days in jail. He can’t be named under a court ordered publication ban since those offences happened when he was a teen back in the 1980s.

This new trial in adult court involves alleged crimes from the 80s and 90s, and is expected to last about two weeks. It includes some of the same victims from the youth trial and because of the previous convictions, he still cannot be identified.

The lead RCMP investigator on this case told the court on Monday (Nov. 4) that she took over the file from another officer in Oct. 2016 and interviewed all three victims herself.

One of those victims is expected to testify in court Tuesday morning (Nov. 5).

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
